    ESDC released new processing times for LMIA applications
    Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) has updated the processing times for the Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) applications under various streams. Based on statistics from different processing centres, the current average LMIA processing times are:

    Global Talent Stream – 13 business days
    Agricultural stream – 21 business days
    Seasonal Agricultural Worker Program – 14 business days
    Permanent residence stream – 21 business days
    In-home caregivers – 15 business days
    High-wage stream – 32 business days
    Low-wage stream – 33 business days

    IRCC invited 518 International Experience Canada candidates
    Over the last week, Canada held new invitation rounds in the pools of the International Experience Canada (IEC) program. From March 29 to April 2, Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) issued 518 Invitations to Apply (ITA) for an IEC open work permit. As of April 4, there are 14,392 candidates registered in the pool, waiting for the invitation. In this round, there were 12 ITAs for Australia, 65 ITAs for Chile, 2 ITAs for Costa Rica, 5 ITAs for Croatia, 25 ITAs for the Czech Republic, 1 ITA for Denmark, 210 ITAs for France, 18 ITAs for Greece, 1 ITA for Hong Kong, 50 ITAs for Ireland, 1 ITA for Italy, 6 ITAs for Japan, 26 ITAs for South Korea, 30 ITAs for the Netherlands, 2 ITAs for New Zealand, 4 ITAs for Portugal, 5 ITAs for Slovakia, 13 ITAs for Spain, 5 ITAs for Switzerland, 15 ITAs for Taiwan, and 22 ITAs for the United Kingdom. In total, Canada issued 3,315 ITAs under the IEC in 2021.

    The number of foreign students is decreasing
    According to Paul Davidson, CEO of Universities Canada, the number of international students at Canadian universities decreased by 2.1% during the period 2020-2021 compared to the academic year 2019-2020. The number of international students in universities has generally increased by more than 10% over the past five years. Thus, It is a huge setback amidst the pandemic crisis. Universities Canada includes 96 universities, and 51 of these institutions have reduced international student enrollment. In total, 26 educational institutions have lost more than 10% of their international students.
