Receiving CERB will not affect eligibility to sponsor
On April 18, 2020, IRCC clarified the impacts of the Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB) on the eligibility of Canadian citizens and permanent residents to submit applications for Parents and Grandparents and Spousal sponsorship. Due to the emergency situation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, IRCC will not consider CERB as social assistance. Moreover, potential sponsors who receive Employment Insurance (EI) during the quarantine will also keep their eligibility to sponsor.

The COVID-19 Outbreak hurts higher education worldwide for next year
According to the recent report by Moody’s Investors Service, the higher education worldwide will face a negative impact of the outbreak of COVID-19 for the next year. Canadian universities and colleges are getting ready to roll out their international enrolment schedule as usual. However, it is still unclear whether new students are willing to learn online in this new school year due to the pandemic. Moody’s report said Canada will expect a lower number of international students this coming school year. Moody’s Vice President and Senior Analyst Jeanne Harrison said that if the academic campuses remain closed until the new academic year begins the income of the schools will be significantly reduced.

Canadian Truckers Associations raise immigration issues for truckers
Truckers working on a temporary work permit can apply for the nomination of the BCPNP only if they score enough points in the program and possess two years of work experience. This causes many truckers to move to other provinces and as a result trucking companies in BC are facing a shortage of truck drivers. Canadian Truckers Associations urges that the BCPNP criteria for truck drivers should only be their IELTS/CELPIP score and work experience and should not include points for education. Long-haul truckers are one of the occupations eligible for Entry Level and Semi-Skilled stream of the Skills Immigration category. Last year, the passing score in this stream was in the range of 75-80. This year, the score is over 80 points which makes it harder for truck drivers to get invited.
